I used Gimp for 3 years or so, and not even 1 for Photoshop, but I'd take PS any day over Gimp.

Photoshop, a lot more thorough for Layer Styles.
GIMP....erm....Alpha Selection?

EVEN PHOTOSHOP HAS THAT!
So overall, Photoshop, way too easy.

Only thing I'd use GIMP for is Photo Manipulation :\

I have created beautiful things with Gimp, like a planet, and if you want to see it PM me. I have also seen others create beautiful things. Although Photoshop goes for the win.
