I'm quite new to this whole idea of graphic design and themes. And I don't have access to a nice suite of tools. I've got GIMP, and don't know how to use it. I use paint to do simple stuff on bit maps. I can program, so I have on occasion written my own programs to hack a bit map in some way. I've recently come across a really impressive way to look through color schemes and palettes. It's called "colorotate" and I suspect some folks here might like it. It's an online tool, and free to use. It uses flash for the programming; very interactive. See Colorotate. I'll include a reduced screen shot that gives a pretty good idea of how it might work. Basically, it lets you develop a palette of colors, store it, modify palettes from others. The palette can be viewed as a set of points on s 3D color space. The tools let you rotate and view the space from different directions, ove your whole palette around, or the individual points, by dragging points across the space. It's a very intuitive thing to use. I've never used photoshop myself, but apparently it is able to interface with that as well. You can export the palette in a range of formats. There's also a fascinating tutorial on the natural of color and perception. A neat feature is that it can show how a palette may appear to people with various forms of color perception deficiencies. This would be great for ensuring colors work for everyone, including those with color blindness. Has anyone else seen or used this? Cheers -- sylas |
