Thoughtful/Sentimental Gifts

Do you receive thoughtful or sentimental gifts? Do you give thought or sentimental gifts? Or do you just give gifts you think the person would "like" just music or something.

By thoughtful or sentimental gifts, I mean things that mean a lot to the person you give them to. Doesn't mean it costs a lot, could be something made. Just means that it means much more to the person you give it to than it would if you had just given them any old gift.

An example:

My mother took Violin lessons when she was younger. She really really enjoyed it. Then she had to stop when she got pregnant with my older brother and she wound up never playing again. It's something that really means a lot to her. When I started playing violin in school, she would play it and talk about how she missed playing etc. She was really good. Then I stopped playing and she had no more violin to play with. She did the same thing when my lil sister started playing. it's obviously something that means a lot to her. She would always talk about how she wanted an electric violin etc.

Yet she doesn't have a violin because she hasn't really had the money to be spending that good amount of money on something like that when there are bills to be paid. It's taken me a long time, and I know I've not been the best of sons and there's a lot of things we went through together that most mothers don't have to deal with. Drugs, arrests, stealing, court, fights, getting jumped etc etc.

To show her I really care I've decided that this year, since I've been working, I'm saving to buy her an electric violin for either her birthday (December 10th) or Christmas. She doesn't normally receive gifts from her kids due to lack of funds etc. So I'm doing this because I, of course, love my mother and want her to know and be happy and able to play.

This is what I mean by thoughtful/sentimental gifts. Presents that mean a lot.. deep down.

Do you give/receive them? If so, would you like to share? :)

Hah, that's nice. Generally I don't really know what would mean a lot but I try to think of those types of things when giving gifts. :P

I have a really hard time coming up with gifts for people, so usually it's whatever they tell me that they want or a giftcard to someplace I know they'll like.

The best gifts are the ones that come from the heart.

The greatest gift of all is love.

No mother, or anyone for that matter, could ask for more than that.

Dayummm Phoenix that's a bummer, maybe you'll be able to find something you can do if you have another day off to earn the 30 bucks back. :(

As long as no one else buys the guitar before he saves up enough money...

Wrong GAK... and keep that :# shit out of this thread... You may find it funny but I don't.

And Cody, if you "pawn" something, it's a loan. You have X amount of time to bring the money back. Whatever you and the pawnshop agree on. If you cannot come up with the money, they sell it.

Or you can just straight sell which means after the legal 15-30 days of holding (they have to inform local authorities of all purchases. They ID and thumb print too, to catch thieves trying to sell stolen shit), they will place it out for sale.

Yes you can however there is a time limit on getting it back. Some pawn shops only give a couple of weeks, maybe less. You would need to call the local pawn shops and ask what thier policy is.

Wouldn't your mother notice your guitar is missing? Just a thought....

I'm trying to come up with some ideas for you but it's rather difficult since I don't really know you. Is there anyone... even the most unlikeliest person... that you could borrow the $30 fron until payday? If you explained why you are asking....

*sighs* I'm really sorry hun... but keep in mind what I said in my post above. It's the thought that counts not the gift.

They are my guitars... she wouldn't care if it went missing :P

And here the pawn shops give up to 3 months I believe. And yeah, there's no one I can borrow money from. I've tried that.

Sounds like that is your best bet then.

If you can get more than $30 for the guitar, which I'm sure you could, then put aside whatever is left over to go towards getting the guitar back. That way you don't have to take as much out of your pay for it. :)
