Hi.
Honestly, I'd have to say forums have made me mature a great deal. It shows - I've seen my own posts from 2005-2006.

The researches made those kids believe it and gave the students the website. It's the researcher's fault.

Also, lol at the first comment on yahoo

Forums are definitely not a good thing for kids to be on unless they are set to a limited time, like 30-60 minutes on a forum a day.

Disagreed. I spend more than that time on my computer each day, and forums have definitely helped me learn skills that are vitally important for me.

The internet altogether is more of a reference than anything, to me.

So you're a "kid" then? If you're at least 15, it probably wouldn't be as much of a problem. I'm actually not referring to people like you, who I'm sure can control themselves and know when enough is enough.

Spending most of your day on a computer all together is unhealthy, something I unfortunately do myself, though am trying to better myself at changing.

Anyways, some people get obsessed with forums (there's a couple examples of that here on Outline, but I won't name anyone), which is the problem I'm sure this whole article is about. Some people spend all day, literally the moment they wake up, to the moment they go to sleep, on a forum. That's unhealthy.

I'm older than 15. But yeah, I can see your point. Then again, a lot of kids always spend their time on electronics. Get off the computer? Sure. I'll just head on over to my PS3. So, I wouldn't classify the internet specifically as a source of making kids dumb. If anything, they're making kids somewhat smarter than consoles, TV do.

So a bunch of morons pretty much gave these kids that were like 10 years old enough information to believe that something existed.

Kids still believe that santa claus is real, theres no more information than what that website had to validate that, does that mean kids that believe that are dumb as well..

That really depends though. A kid who sits on the computer playing games all day isn't going to pick up any social skills. And there's a limit on what kind of social skills you can pick up on the internet. You can learn to meet new people, but only behind a computer screen. Most often behind a screen name as well. Now, in my opinion, a more important social skills is to learn how to meet people in person. It's going to be hard for someone who sits on the computer all day to go out and meet new people.

Basically, if the internet is used for education purposes, then no, it doesn't make kids "dumb", but rather expands their horizons. Obviously the internet has more up to date information and allows someone to see what's going on in the world more easily.

But if you have someone who goes onto the computer just for the purpose of games, they will be dumbed down by the internet, to say in a way that this article could hint at. Though I still think the article is crap. It'd be so much better to go at this in a completely different angle, because the internet helps so many kids learn things and helps them with school work.

I can see how forums would hurt someone though. I mean, Outline is great for recreational purposes for a bit during the day, but it's definitely not going to teach you the math to balance your check book, or how to get a job, pay your bills, do your taxes, how to drive, how to pretty much do anything in the world you're going to need to know how to do survive.

Honestly, it's hard to sum up what I'm trying to get at. I'm not trying to debate, just show the side of the argument that the internet can be harmful in a way. But at the same time, I don't want to appear as if I'm defending the idiots who did that research. Okay, to sum it all up, what I'm trying to say is: It's not the internet who makes people dumb, it's the person who makes themselves dumb.

Blah, I'm tired and it's hard to think. D: My argument probably seems like a bunch of rambling that makes no sense.

+10 cookiez to anyone who actually understands my point though. =D
