Religion/God/Hell/Heaven - Equal Grounds!?

On the way to Burger King like 30 minutes ago I was talking with my sisters dad about "God" and the earth. How everything is here, animals, people, hills, etc, Now I told him I have talked to pastors personally about the questions I had and that I've heard what the bible has to say about "God" walking amongst the earth with the disciples. He says I'm ignorant. Ignorant for what, if I don't feel right and if I myself does not accept something then so be it, there should be nothing wrong with it. He says if I'm not with it then I'm on the bad side "Hell" like is there no middle ground here! I'm not against it but I don't feel right for it and I cannot accept it. I may not believe in it personally, however I do not discriminate towards something others believe and hold dear to them.

I'm just gonna throw out that he has strong beliefs :P Many people are like that though, and far too few are willing to see the middle ground for many issues. You and I might even be extreme on some issues (I know I am), but it happens. You just have to deal with people who have extreme views and take and give what you can.

It's just ignorant of them to go and say such things. It's a real pain sometimes.

What an idiotic thing to say really, but the world is full of such people and we have nothing more to do but to deal with it.

And the idiots sadly.

Guys, I also mean not to offend anyone. If I do I deeply apologize.

Wow, this guy sounds like he strongly believes in God. Just ignore him, you have a right to your opinion and if he doesn't like it, well then tough luck.

Exactly, and he doesn't even have religion! He's like I have spirit, I believe in the spirit. I'm thinking seriously! If you believe in it you gotta have a religion of some sort or where else would you stand. Complete ignorance and he's telling me. I hate dealing with this, yet I'm called atheist as well. Wish there was a middle ground.

Irrelevant, but if he's your sister's dad, isn't he your dad too? Or is she like your half-sister (same mum, different dad)?

Anyway, he has the right to believe whatever he wants (so your last post stating that he doesn't even have religion makes no sense. You don't need religion. You can just have beliefs), and so can you. If he doesn't want to accept that then that's his problem, not yours. Believe whatever you want to, and respect that others may think differently.

I have no problem with people strongly believing in God - I do. What can be problematic, however, is the intolerance that some people can have when their faith is strong. I would agree with him insofar as that I believe it is good for people to know Jesus. However, telling people that they're going to Hell isn't really the best way to go about it. How we live our lives tends to be a much better indicatior of what our faith is about - if I'm a good, kind, generous person, people may be attracted to my faith; if I am condemning of everyone who disagrees with me, I cannot expect much sympathy.

You guys are both right to me. Bobmarely, I wouldn't say I'm athiest, I just don't believe, I myself cannot accept and I won't force it upon myself. That does not mean I do not respect the religious views of others. Thanks. :)

Not believing in God would make you an atheist. More specifically an agnostic atheist. You don't believe in God, but do not exclude the possibility of one existing. Is that how you feel?

Yes, but why should some form of religion have to fall on me just because of that and make it appeal to others that I'm included in whatever beliefs athiest are? I shouldn't be.

I see what you mean. Technically, you probably are an atheist, though I gather that you don't support all of what atheists do/believe. Is that a decent conclusion for me to reach?

I do celebrate holidays and such. I'm not gonna go and classify myself as something I am not.

Ok, that's a fair point. How would you define yourself, then?

See this is exactly what I mean, this stuff is hard! :/

I classify myself as a human being trying to make it in the world. I do not commit crimes, I am straight edge 100% and I respect everyone's religious beliefs not discriminating against anyone's. I celebrate holidays.

I also celebrate the holidays (Christmas, Easter), but I don't celebrate the religious part. For Easter, for example, I just search chocolate eggs and eat them. Christmas is just about having family dinners and such. You can celebrate the Christian holidays without their Christian meaning.

I personally think that an agnostic atheist would describe you the best. But hey, if you feel like it doesn't then that could very well be. :P

What's an agnostic athiest. Possibly, maybe but I have to see what it is.

An agnostic atheist doesn't believe in a god or a religion (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc), but doesn't exclude the possibility of a God existing. If you do believe there is no God and there is no possible for one to exist, you're just an atheist and not an agnostic one.
