Well, I heard non-stop sirens today for nearly an hour.. my mom turned on the police scanner and we listened to everything unfold. I live literally a minute away from the lake talked about in the report.. I fish there all the time. Definitely an extremely sad story, and of all things, he dies trying to save his friend. I saw 5 squad cars go by, followed by an ambulance and 2 more squad cars.. supposedly it was a police escort to the hospital or whatever.

That's one of my brother's friends. Not all that close with him, but I certainly knew him and talked to him every once in a while. Wow.. I'm sorta shocked, along with my brother. He was here one day and then gone the next.. god that's scary.

Hi.
State law requires life jackets for everyone 13 and under. That number should be increased.

Indeed...we all wear lifejackets when we go to the lake...even though we're all on swim teams and whatnot. Think it's 13 and under here, too.

It's things like this that are the reason Oregon changed the law from 15-16 and under to anyone on the water. Boat, canoe, raft.. all have to have life jackets

I don't get anything from that link you posted.

Sorry for the loss though. D: I agree with you about the life jackets. I'm pretty sure everyone in Arkansas is supposed to wear one while on a water craft.

My condolences. Having someone (sort-of) close to you die at a young age is bad. Had it happen to myself as well (a truck hit a friend of mine when he was 12 or so) and it's just really unexpected and out of the blue.

Link doesn't show up for me too. It's so sad to hear this. I hope you and your brother are ok. This actually happened to a person that I see around at school. Although he didn't die, he nearly drowned. I agree with the life jackets.

Very sad to hear, someone dying, no matter who it is always heart breaking. I don't care if you swim good or not, if you're going out to a lake or ocean you're wearing a life jacket no matter what. A life can be taken away at a blink of a eye, better safe than sorry.

Hi.
Yeah, not sure if they took down the story or what..

Well, my mom woke me up this morning because my English teach posted something on her wall about this.. not only is it my brother's friend, but it's actually the brother of the kid I sat next to in English class all year long. I had no idea that they were related because they got the school wrong in a few of the articles. She said something like this.. his family has had a rough life with drugs, a divorce, etc, and the reason she sat him next to me was because she thought I'd be a good influence to him (considering I'm not into drugs at all, good family, good grades, etc).

And then to see Nick's (my friend's) Facebook status.. 'im gonna miss you mitch'. That put me at a loss for words.

In short, here's the story. 4 kids were in a canoe on a lake, not too far away from my house. The canoe flipped, so they were all hanging on to it. One decided to swim back to shore.. and he only made it half way before he started to struggle. The kid I've been talking about went to save his friend from drowning. The kid who was drowning panicked, and pushed the other kid underwater. The dive team found him on the bottom of the lake 40 minutes later. He was still alive somehow - but later died about 2 hours later.

Good intentions, deadly mistake.
