Hot Damn!
I don't intend to start a fight or whatever, so please abstain from that. This is not a discussion thread either.

So yeah, where do your values come from? Do you consider that you went discovering them with each step you took in your life? Do you think that your father gave them to you? Religion maybe?

Share your thoughts.

Trouble will find you, she's an awfully cunning bird. And progress, it blinds you, it's in every lesson learned.
Failure leaves more room for improvement, masquerading as time well spent.
Honesty is a noble tool, I'm gonna learn to use it wisely. Reason outweighs the rules, when I lead with you behind me.
Loyalty sadly held prisoner, and pity is her only visitor.

I think a core set of my values definitely came from my parents, while another subset, yet just as substantial, set came from the teachers I have met over the years. The rest of my less 'static' values (the ones that haven't really changed since I developed them as a child) tend to be influenced by both friends and random bystanders to my life. I suppose religion has had an indirect effect on me, as I never pursued it, thus never saw the outcome of my actions as a way to answer a deity's will, but my own.

from my parents i think, then helped on by my friends and the people i'm often around. my close friends tend to have the same or similar values to me. also of course my teachers. i doubt it's possible to grow up without any influence on your values :P

I don't think they came from one thing or even a couple of things. I think they came from all my experiences combined. Because even the smallest thing can change your values the tiniest bit, but make a world of difference regardless.

I wouldn't say my values/morals came from my parents, but rather the lack of one. Growing up with only one parent showed me not what to do, but rather what not to. My beliefs stem from what I refuse to become and things I've developed myself through extensive research on things most people don't even know of.

Through history and philosophy mixed with my life of drugs and my (non)religious views. As uncommon as my life is, I've been able to surround myself with people of like minds. Which just shows the truth behind the phrase, "There is always more than a single path to a single destination"

Though I'm sure most of you have heard the similar meaning in different words, most have.

I put no stock on religion, and my dad was a hippie when he was my age :#

I have little belief in moral standards to be honest, although I believe in ethics. I live my life by showing people respect, toleration to all personal choices and privacy. I expect the world to have such considerations with me ^.^

When you wear my flower, you make it beautiful.
I think most of my values come from my family, even though we don't really share the same ones.

There are a lot of things about my family that bother me, whether it's bigotry or just not treating yourself and your family with the respect they deserve. I take these things and resolve to do them differently with my own life. I've seen the type of person I don't want to be, and from that I fashion the type of person I do want to be.

In this world you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. Well for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.
