Do you think that self-publishing would be a better option than seeking professional publication?

If you have the resources and time for selfpublishing, go for it, but it's not always the case, and for some subjects in particular you MUST find a publisher, it all depends on the type of work and availability of resources.

I think that seeking a publisher wouldn't hurt. They have the means to mass produce your book, as well as advertise and spread it across a far greater area. There's nothing wrong with self-publication. With self-publication you're guaranteed to get it published, but that just means that producing the book would come out of your pocket, rather than coming from theirs (cheaper, mind you) while you still gain profits and royalties from the sales

By all means, continue learning about and pursuing self-publication, as I said guaranteed to publish that way. But I suggest you at least try for publishers. That way, even if they don't pick it up, you get published and once you're published if you sell well, publishers that know your name from submissions may rethink it once they see how it sells etc

A great means for self-publication would be selling them on your own website. That way you can print to order, you know? And if you go that route and want a website for it, feel free to PM me or get a hold of me, I'd be happy to help you with that :)

I have written essays on both medical issues and music! Also, I used to write for a music blog (retired from it though haha); now I "work" on a file-sharing blog, for which I write from time to time.

My main language is not English, so any excuse to practice it is a good excuse.

I agree with you, that's why most of the stuff I read is in English, so I won't get rusty. Plus, many tell me I have better English than many native speakers.

I enjoy fantasy. I love the complete freedom that comes with it; you can create your own sets of rules, our universe's don't apply.
I enjoy that the most too. :)

That's true, unfortunately. :(

When I was still studying Spanish in high school, we read a few short stories. I found that doing so really improved my overall understanding.

Ah well, it will always be simpler for a Spaniard/Latin American to learn english than for you guys to learn spanish, because we have more rules on grammar and less on pronouciation.

No I don't write and only time I do is essays at school and I hated those with a passion. I don't mind writing essays in general but if it's about some lame ass story like Othello then that drives me crazy.

I prefer historical/factual essays but I bet I can come up with a creative story.

I don't write much lol, I prefer visual stuff like when I watch Stargate I can think of my own episodes & see them in my mind which is kind of cool. :D I tried to write them down/type them once but it didn't seem to work well lol.

Same here! Haha.

I don't know if I would say it's easier to learn English once you know Spanish; I have seen a BIG amount of engrish after all; usually amongst people who don't know anything about it and for some reason feel like their quasi-sentimental facebook status update should be in English.
