I know yeah I know people who live in Croydon and the weird thing is the place that is burning is not far from West Croydon station if I remember right. I walked passed the place how many times when I went down there to visit relatives. I am glad I did not go to Birmingham today it is pathetic really what is the point of making all that damage? (I know its 1am & I am till awake & I have to go out at 8:30 tomorrow but I drank 4 cans of Red Bull)

nothing. a 'gangster' was shot dead in Tottenham in London a few days ago, and that started rioting in Tottenham. now it's spread for no good reason (if there could be one)

it's mindless criminals basically

Saw this on the news. Heard they started in Tottenham (right? I watched a while ago so I forgot :P ) because of a 27-year old getting killed. Now they're just rioting for the sake of rioting.

Yup basically & looting as well. They have stole from all sorts of places, I know someone who I worked with who was in Birmingham he is ok though so it is all good. There is no real reason for them doing the rioting though it is just extremely daft, & pathetic in my view.

It aint in the UK though the last riots were in London as normal but they were for tuition fees which I agreed with but violence does not achieve anything which that riot proved because the tuiton fees are still going to be £6000-£9000 (most are £9000PER Year). That one had actual reason but these just are for nothing. :@ these people do get me annoyed. arrr

West Midlands Police Press Release:

West Midlands Police continue to tackle the disorder occurring in Birmingham this evening.

Several premises have been attacked with some shop windows smashed and property stolen in various locations in the centre as well as some surrounding areas.

Around 100 people have been arrested so far for various offences including violent disorder and aggravated burglary, and are currently in custody. A significant number of these arrests are of young people. There have been no reports of any major injuries to members of the public or police officers as a result of the disorder.

Police are currently controlling access on some of the arterial routes into the city centre, including the inner-city ring road, whilst officers continue to bring calm back to Birmingham. This is continually being reviewed to ensure that people who need to enter the centre, such as businesses, can still gain access. Contrary to some rumours circulating there have been no reports of disorder in Coventry or Wolverhampton.

ACC Sharon Rowe said: "We want to protect the people of Birmingham by restoring order and returning the city to normality as soon as possible.

"We will not tolerate mindless violence anywhere in the West Midlands and are working to hard to ensure that the offenders are identified and caught as soon as possible.

"An operation is in place with extra officers in Birmingham to restore calm in the city centre, and protect local people and businesses, and we are working closely with Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance service.

"Our communities have made it clear to us that they do not want this kind of violence in their city and we will continue to work with them to bring anybody who commits acts of crime or anti-social behaviour to justice as soon as possible.

"Our first priority is to ensure that we bring calm back to the city centre.

"The investigation into the disorder has already started and we are proactively reviewing the CCTV to identify other offenders and bring them to justice.

"A significant number of the arrests have been young people, so I would urge parents to get in touch with their children and get them home to ensure they are safe."

Council Leaders at Birmingham City Council have appealed for calm, following unrest in the city this evening (8th August).

Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: "We are appealing to people within the city to remain calm and allow the police and others to do their job in bringing these incidents under control.

"To help achieve this it is important that as many people as possible leave the streets. We urge all parents within the city to get in touch with any children or young people not currently at home asking them to return.

"The City Council will be making every effort possible from first light tomorrow to clear up any damage and bring normality back to the city as soon as possible. To this end we'd stress to retailers, workers and shoppers alike that the city remains very much open for business and would encourage them to come in as normal tomorrow."

Hot Damn!
I read about this earlier today on Twitter, but nobody could actually tell me what was going on.

That's pretty sad though, rioting about senseless stuff just for the sake of it. /:

Trouble will find you, she's an awfully cunning bird. And progress, it blinds you, it's in every lesson learned.
Failure leaves more room for improvement, masquerading as time well spent.
Honesty is a noble tool, I'm gonna learn to use it wisely. Reason outweighs the rules, when I lead with you behind me.
Loyalty sadly held prisoner, and pity is her only visitor.

My friend was about to visit the UK but apparently one of the riots is in hometown so he'll have to reschedule it.

What are they rioting about?
Greed.

Nope. The rioting that started in Tottenham was because a 27 year old guy got killed by police bullets. But the other bullying is just pure senseless vandalism and looting.
