It's a love story, baby just say yes
So Cody mentioning his external hard drive in another topic made me think of this, but I'm not sure if would help any or not. And I don't want to spend money on one if it won't.

Anyways, if I bought an external hard drive and ran Photoshop off of it instead of off of my netbook, would that still overload the computer and cause ps to lag and shit or would it be better since it's not actually taking up space on the netbook hd?
Consider this statement my permission to convert my themes to other platforms. Please link back to http://geoffreykoester.com. Be sure to rehost all theme images on the new platform as we do not know how long they will redirect. Also some boards hosting theme/skin images may not survive the move.

I don't think it'd make any difference, as RAM is what matters most.

Yeah, it's your RAM and CPU/processor speeds that affect that the most. There are USB flash drives that work with Windows 7/Vista to increase your RAM, but your computer's RAM can still only go so high. I'd find out what your computer can hold for RAM maximum and then think about upgrading it if you can. :)

The Ext. HD will not make any difference.

Plus Photoshop would take up most of the screen.

It'd be best to stick with GIMP for now.

Cody basically summed it up. Are you using Photoshop Portable?

I use GIMP. Is PS Portable any better?

Photoshop Portable is basically the same as a fully installed Photoshop, it's just that you don't need to install it.

Portable versions of Photoshop are buggy and can be very unreliable and crash sometimes.

The only benefit I can think of is a reduction of lag, maybe slightly, maybe pretty well. I've never had to use it, but it would make sense.

Downloaded PS Portable yesterday (finally, took forever to find a working dl). It's a little better, but there is a still quite a bit of lag. I guess I'll be sticking with gimp for now, but I'm also going to keep this PS on my computer to open PSDs and stuff.
