What do you believe is the most valuable subject of study in terms of human development? We have art [visual, performance, audio, etc.], science, math, history/social studies, and the language(s) of our world, etc. Why do you believe this subect (or a combination of them or all of them!) is better then the others? Is it personal bias (ie a scientist would find his or her field the most 'useful')? Discuss. |

Linguistics. Because if we didn't have language or some other kind of communication form, we wouldn't even be able to share the knowledge we have on the other things. |

If I were to say the most important, it'd be history (under that category would fall linguistics for the reasons that Raxby mentioned). Mathematics, science, art, etc. are all beneficial to our growth as a society and a race, but we could live without them. They help us understand and make better use of the things around us, but there was a time when we didn't have many of these things and we survived as a race. History would be my most important because of its value to guide us in our future ways and, similarly to the others, improve ourselves as a race. None of the other subjects matter if we keep repeating the same actions such as wars over and over again. Not only that, but history helps us adapt to past, present, and future issues that arise. Now that's just my personal opinion - the other aspects of society hold an impressive important to us as well because they keep us protected and advanced. Now if I were to choose an interesting subject to devote my life to studying it'd be philosophy/psychology. I find the developments and connections in human nature to be fascinating. I think it'd be awesome to conduct experiments and find patterns in human behavior that have never been found before.

That's hard to say, they all have merit. Without language, there would be no society. Without communication, we don't have anything and there's no possible way to progress because we wouldn't be able to communicate ideas. Without math and science, we wouldn't be able to make the technological advances we need to survive. Adaptation and evolution are great and all, but they happen over thousands of years. Math and science allow us to develop our own solutions quickly, giving the human race a better chance at survival. History reminds us of past successes, to inspire us, and past failures, to warn us. As the saying goes, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. But if I had to choose one, I would have to say language, for the reasons I already listed. |

I would have to say language. Communication is how we can share ideas, build relationships with one another, and overall build a society. |

Math & Science are more valuable - "Go down deep enough into anything and you will find mathematics. ~Dean Schlicter" Math is a universal language it is the same in english as it is in german, french, spanish, itialian, you get the idea... |

I would say History. Yes Language is useful, but it's something that most of us learn (our home language at least) from a young age. ![]() If we didn't learn from the past, there's no room for a future, because we'll just keep on making the same mistakes over and over. ![]() As much as I love History as a subject though, my favourites would have to be Legal Studies and Psychology. I think that they're both really useful and interesting.
