Crazy, and there are people I know who actually look like the retouched ones.

Honestly many of the women look better before they were retouched. Natural beauty FTW. |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ![]() I've only taken a look at the first few, and while I do agree the retouched versions do look better (in my opinion), they really shouldn't be ashamed to show their true selves. If the case is that they are ashamed, then maybe they should get someone better for the job. |

Well some of them do look better in the retouched versions, but others don't. The third woman, for example. Her skin looks unnatural in the retouched version. |

That's because she is unnatural in the retouched version. They basically re-did to change her skin tone and remove any blemishes or things of the sort. Just pointing out the obvious here. :r |

But it's easy to tell is what I'm saying. The skin tone they used isn't one that you see on people; those who aren't aware that its been retouched would still look at that picture and think something was off about it. The other pictures, aside from the ones that have altered backgrounds or effects, look more natural. While we know they aren't, they could pass as it. That one, in my opinion, could not. Although looking at it again, the same could be said of the fourth one as well. Edited by Stacha, Friday, 21. October 2011, 23:16.

this isn't uncommon. almost every photo of a model you see will be retouched somehow, even if it's just the lighting even to the extent a whole module at uni was dedicated to photo re-touching. car photography is heavily manipulated, those may surprise you more... many car manufactures just use CGI (3d modelling)while there's the argument that natural beauty is best, from a business point of view you don't want flaws visible otherwise your audience may focus on them instead |

I understand all of that, and I don't really mind it. I just personally find the untouched photos to be more attractive. It's certainly more relatable and believable than a seemingly pristine model. |

it is but similar to cat walk models being too skinny or something i supposeif they're too airbrushed, it's picked up. if they're left natural, their flaws will be picked up, so i guess you can't really win

But the retouched photos look a lot less realistic because you are able to closely compare them to the originals. Pretty much all of the magazine covers with models on it are retouched like this, but you don't really notice they are because you can't compare them to the original. Unless, of course, you look at them with the thought that they may have been retouched. But generally you don't. Which is why, as Louisa pointed out, businesses go for the touched up look as there's a lesser risk of people noticing flaws. |

Again, I am completely aware of all of this. It's pretty common knowledge that the majority of photos in magazines have been airbrushed. I was simply saying that, in my opinion, the originals are more attractive than the airbrushed versions. To me, a freckle here and there adds character, tells more of a story than another faceless model. I'm not disputing why it's done, or even that it's done. Just stating that I don't think it was necessary. |

I love the original photo of the third woman and I hate how they made all those freckles or whatever you can call them disappear. I love those freckles. <3 I have many of them myself. xD |

I completely agree, Cyn. Though I wouldn't mind making a couple of my freckles disappear.
