Anyone been seeing the advertisements for this movie coming out? What do you think from what you've seen?

At first I was like, " Oh great, ANOTHER movie where aliens invade earth", but then I was interested in the way they kill the humans, thus I became slightly interested in the movie. So now I'm a little interested in seeing the movie myself.

If anyone goes to see the movie when it comes out, you'll have to let me know how it was. (y)

To me, the movie looks rushed. The effects for the "invasion" look so simple. Floating gas clouds is something that can be done in minutes. Besides, the overall theme is invasion and alien invasions on Christmas? Not a good combo.

That's just me though.

But it's refreshing, isn't it? When you see an invasion flick it's always lasers and exploding the humans and blowing up the White House. Plus the whole "electricity gives them away" thing is interesting too. I don't mind if the effects aren't that fancy, movies should be more substance than special effects anyway. :]

Yes but its one thing if the storyline is good but another one to have yellow gas clouds blowing up people. Besides, alien invasions are a thing from the past.

And on Christmas? That movie will barely make any sales. A huge mistake they made.

Do you realize how many movies come out on Christmas and do well for their opening? Many movies have done that.

And what's the problem with the aliens being little gas clouds? It's a refreshing take on aliens compared to the usual weird green/other weird color beings that look like they belong in the ocean. It's definitely an interest look to them for me compared to what you find in recent movies such as District 9, War of the Worlds, Battle: Los Angeles, and other suck alien movies. Sure, there might be some movies out there who use the same idea for aliens, but recently they've mostly have been what you see in those movies.

Will the movie be good? Who knows, everyone has their own definition of good and no one will even know until the movie comes out and they've seen it. Just because it doesn't have the most amazing effects you've ever seen doesn't make or break the movie (way too many people judge based on special effects now days) and it could turn out to be pretty good. We'll just have to wait and see.

And the idea of the aliens attacking through the power supply is extremely interesting. Most of the time it's just invade and blow the shit out of things.

That's the exact same as War of the Worlds, the aliens used a robot that zapped electricity and turned them into dust. That's why Alien movies are a thing of the past, everything has been used so why the hell would anyone watch a repeat?

Why does everyone judge based on effects and graphics? Lololol that's just how the world works now, whether you agree or not that's your own judgement.

I see no difference in this movie and others, the electricity is the alien invasion and they are just zapping up people. Even the people are all the same, in all movies, the people are dumb enough to get close to the "thing" and then they all run away once someone gets hurt.

Every concept is recycled nowadays. :P You'd be hard pressed to find a book or movie that is entirely original, This one, electricity, isn't overly used so it seems fresh. Alien invasion movies are still extremely popular with a new one coming out every couple of years or so and generally doing well in the box-office. Not everyone does judge based on the special effects; I certainly don't and so whether or not a movie has them isn't going to determine whether I see it or not. As for people getting close to the thing, well, yeah. Do you honestly think that if something like this really did happen, no one would approach it? It's human nature. We're curious. Someone would investigate.

I'm not saying any of this to be rude; if you don't want to see it, by all means don't. I just simply don't agree with some of your assertions. :]

DL: I actually loved District 9...... xD

Nope, Avatar brought something new. Same to transformers, heck even twilight brought something new (surprisingly)

Agreed but the majority do seeing as how generation pass and nothing can be done to change that. Plus everything is based on looks. Clothes, cars, shoes, hair, toys, so what's the difference here? You wouldn't buy some raggedy and dirty stuffed animal would you?

I do, I would rather not waste my time on a movie that looks like no effort was put into and something that isn't attractive. Especially on the Holidays.

It's a movie, they should change it up and not repeat the same process over and over again.

Avatar did have a recycled concept. Both in a historical perspective and a fictional perspective. It showed the hostile colonization of a habitat in the name of resources, which is strikingly similar to the war for oil currently happening in the Middle East, the colonization of Africa and the Americas in history, and it was essentially a grown up version of the movie Ferngully. The Transformers plot has also been used time and time again, good guys fleeing from their home to find somewhere new, then defending it when the bad guys follow. Twilight is a bastardized version of Romeo and Juliet, with their forbidden love. What made each of these movies successful and enjoyable and fresh were the creative liberties the producers and writers took, which I'm sure is the case in the Darkest Hour as well, though I can't be sure until I see it. It looks as though it will be good from the preview, but there's always the chance it could be poorly made.

I would buy a raggedy stuffed animal, I love to cuddle. True story. I wouldn't say this movie doesn't look as though any effort has been put into it just because 89% of it isn't done in CGI. Some of the greatest movies every made were filmed before people had the ability to do more than point and shoot the camera. What makes a movie great, to me anyway, is the content. Special effects are a bonus, when they aren't overdone, but they aren't necessary.

Movies need to be realistic if anyone is going to take them seriously. You're asking the audience to become invested in a story that in all likelihood could never happen. You're asking them to care about the characters and the outcome. If it's unrelatable, distant, and unrealistic, that isn't going to happen. That's why you have so many sub-plots, character depth and intrigue in well made movies.
