Gloss is good, now work on some other effects like glows, satins, gradients, etc. ;)

Also, yellow isn't really a good color to experiment with imo since it's already so light and on gloss especially it's hard to tell if you've actually made any adjustment. :P

I agree with Geoffrey. It's best to start with easier colors like blue or orange. Those two usually take especially well to gloss. Also think about increasing your h2 height so that you have more room to ork with.

It seems as though you've got the basics down, so try expanding and using some layer styles, etc. :)

Edit: Oops, didn't catch that you're using GIMP. Check the tutorials section here at Outline - I have quite a few gloss tutorials from when I used it. :P

For satins, do a black to white bi linear gradient starting in the middle to the top of the selection. Adjust opacity quite a bit/till it looks good.

For glows and other effects, add this plug in: http://registry.gimp.org/node/186
That lets you do all of the "layer effects" that Photoshop has (or most all anyways).

I'll create a new blue H2 with your advicesss.

Edit: Crap. I run Linux and for some reason I cannot get Layer Effects.
New Glossy Blue H2... I am thinking of expanding this one... but i'd need help with that.

Edit 2: My text was bringing down the last one. I took text off

from your updated one; you should delete the gloss that's placed above the border so it'll look better.

To be honest with you, it doesn't look glossy at all. It looks like two different color rectangles slapped together. The colors are very hard on the eyes. You should try lighter ones. :P And the black etch line at the bottom is very irritating to look at. When I do gloss, it's usually white > overlay > opacity lowered to fit my needs. As for the greyish little capsule you tried, it seems a little overbearing, and doesn't flow with the rest of the colors. And your text is too big as well. Usually twelve is big enough, and it looks about to be 14. And for the text, I always use Segoe UI, then bold the text if needed.

Oh, and sorry - you use gimp right? I could maybe search some gradient styles you could use and have a step by step on how to download them to your computer?

If you had time that would be great.... It may be a little hard because I run on Linux Mint 11...

Mint <3

I think if you didn't gloss the border it would look better and more like a gloss as a whole.
