Does anyone use this site? http://www.codecademy.com I'm currently working through their Javascript lessons. They're pretty good, so far. It's a language that I've wanted to learn for a while (so that I can make neat little things for ZB) but never found an appropriate place to learn. Codecademy is pretty decent in that it gives you instructions to follow in order to progress to the next step. The steps also seem pretty tiny; they tell you about stuff, give you a small task and then let you play on the task. Once you've finished the task, you move on. There's automatic progression after each section and you can view your progress overall. You can also go back and view previous lessons to recap things you may have forgotten. Pretty useful. Oh, and for those of you in the know, you can create lessons too. Other people can learn from what you add to the site, you can see their feedback and post little steps. Worth a look. |

JavaScript is much handier than jQuery, though jQuery is a lot easier because it's sort of like common sense. I wouldn't mind using this, when I'm not busy, to learn to use both JavaScript and jQuery hand-in-hand. Thanks for pointing this site out, Lewis.

No problem. I thought that it seemed useful, especially to those members on a resource board

Just so you know, jQuery and JavaScript are not two different languages, but in fact jQuery is a sort of 'extension' on JavaScript. jQuery itself is plain JavaScript, it's just a library of many many different commonly used functions, allowing for easy use. Here is jQuery in all it's plain JavaScript glory .

I'm agreed. Took me a couple of attempts to get the hang of counting. |

Actually a nice find. Thanks. I did the first like 53 exercises and will keep going through probably all of them. Then probably go the jQuery.. might look through the HTML/CSS stuff just for laughs... I remember back when Joe use to PM me asking JS questions... now comparably, he's far more into it than I. Need to relearn it all... so again, thanks |

No worries. ![]() Having people learn this sort of thing is only going to mean that we get better stuff across our forums. |

Personally it's more for web design and freelance work, plus I can use it on IP.B and work my way into PHP so I can mod IP.B how I want |

I've known about this for at least a couple of months. I originally found it on Forrst ages ago. It's a pretty good place to check out and learn stuff. It's not always the best for learning things but definitely a great place for practicing things you know. |

I think that's where I might have heard about it too. Either that, Dribbble or Encide. I completed the single Javascript introduction they had on the site and then forgot all about it until I received an email the other day. I hopped back on and it seems to have bulked up since I was last on it. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember my credentials for my account so had to re-register. |

Thank you for this. I just started learning yesterday, and just finished Exercise 53, and I plan on trying to do all of the exercises they have available.First one I made: Spoiler: click to toggle andd one I just finished: Spoiler: click to toggle Haha, I'm so noob. ;-; Edit: Jeez, went to this lesson and got stumped. I ended up doing: Spoiler: click to toggle but this wasn't really user friendly, they didn't explain arrays at all prior since they had different lessons before.. well I hope this helps anybody else getting stuck on it.

Spoiler: click to toggle That's what I would have done, so no different to yours except using explicit true and false over 1 and 0. Edited by Viral, Saturday, 4. August 2012, 21:35.

Yeah I know. x) I just used it instead of true or false because I've been using true or false for all the other exercises, was spicing it up haha. Edited by Matt., Saturday, 4. August 2012, 22:48.
