So I was curious to know if anyone is interested in helping out with a new forum project I'm considering. Just need ideas on the genre, so if you want to discuss it at all simply comment and let me know

There's no need to bump a discussion topic. If someone has something to contribute, they'll do so. I think if you want complete honesty, it's a bit off-putting seeing as you've made more than enough boards just in the past few days/weeks here. It's not something I wanted to say, but it is the truth. Unfortunately, if you're going to decide to close and open a board simply because you can't find staff or because there is minimal activity in the beginning, then chances are people won't even bother to help or participate if they know it could end in just a blink. This also reminds me of the "Boy who cried wolf" because each time you try to make things bigger and better when in reality nothing changes but the type and name of the board. If you're definitely going to make a board, be sure you have the patience and confidence that people will join as time goes on, and that you understand that not everyone is going to love your board. I'm sorry I had to be so blunt, but it's probably for the best. |

Going to add onto what Aidan said: You don't need staff when you open a forum. No one does. The ONLY exception would be a promotion (and resource) forum, and even then, you need maybe two people helping you. Don't go out and make a promotion forum though, they're quite possibly the hardest genre to get started without real dedication. For any other type of DISCUSSION board, you, as the sole admin and staff member, can run your community for at least several months and even up to the one year mark depending on growth. You're on a lot, you can monitor your forum, post on it, etc. on your own. When your board gets to the point, long down the road, that you NEED help and NEED to hire staff, hire from within your own community and not from other forums like this one, Antiquus, and other promotion/resource/admin forums. Not trying to be harsh or mean, but I'm just telling you what I wish I had realized a long time ago. And back to what Aidan said, seeing you make a new board every other day or so IS discouraging and I have personally been avoiding most of your topics because of that. Honestly, you remind me of me two years ago. xD |

If you can't figure out what you want to do with this forum then don't even bother. That part is up to you to know what you want to do and where your passions lie. No one knows you better then you. Find your passion and run with it. If you keep opening and closing boards then you will find yourself with on one willing to help you with anything in any. If you have to ask if X( the genre of board you made) is your passion then you haven't found it. You will just know it when it comes. |
