When you wear my flower, you make it beautiful.
Have you ever looked into another religion, not necessarily to convert but just to know more about it? Is it something that just would not ever interest you?

I'm currently reading up on Taoism. In the future, I'd love to know more about Buddhism, Islam, even Mormonism. I find all of it really fascinating, and many parts beautiful. Something to know about for the sake of knowing.

But you aren't interested in understanding the principles of other religions, even for the sake of just understanding them?

I've had mandatory religion classes for about 4 years at high school, so I've learned my fair share about Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and some "smaller" religions. I'll just honestly say I probably wouldn't have done the classes if they weren't mandatory and they didn't cause me to alter my religious choice (atheism), but I do admit that it has helped me understand other religions a bit better.

I don't know if I'd want to take a class. Things become so much less interesting when I'm required to learn about them. :P

I think the idea of there being multiple religions and beliefs is very interesting. I know the basics of most religions, i would say... But I haven't looked much farther than that.

Yes, I do looks for some customs and some differences in other religion.
I do that, because I live in India and here we have more than 30 religions living together :)
So yes, it is very easy to be friends with a guy of different religion, so it makes us to share our views and our customs and all things.
But I do hate the discrimination, and also I just try to know the religion not follow or do anything related to it :P
I know Hinduism (I am), Muslims, Christians, and many other. :)

It's really neat that you live in an area with so much diversity, Akash. Most people around here are either Christian, Jewish, or atheist.

During my earlier years of school, we were essentially forced to partake in a christian class or else be given homework to complete during that period while others were singing and answering stupid questions about how apples grow in gardens and what not...

Apart from that, i've had minor involvements with different religions from some after-school programs, but its never put me in any situation where i've had an ounce of doubt about my own beliefs and where i stand, but for an outside perspective; i guess its always learn some basics even if you never use them.

Yes Exactly.
This is what makes me to remain comfortable with people of other religions too.
And also, this makes me not to look at one's religion but to look at his views.
It becomes a common factor that I never ever give any importance to any religion tho.

I'm comfortable with people with other religions too. Not because I grew up with people of different kinds of religions but just because I don't care if they're Christian or Jew or Muslim or any other kind of religion.

I'm not an atheist, I'm not a Christian (although I am baptized) and it's not that I don't believe, I just don't care, which makes it all very easy. (y)

I could never consider the single handed greatest division of the human race as something "beautiful". The word religion is to rely on a jinn. Guess you don't know what a jinn is.

I've looked into a lot of religions, but none of them are so silly as Christianity. The idea of a god who lives outside of time, is omniscient, AND gives you free-will is laughable. It's not possible - what you get is the illusion of free-will.

And Satan? Really? An all-powerful being who can triumph over all controversy, but has this little prick that messes with people? Sounds like God needed a scapegoat for all the bad shit that happens on the planet.

If you're referring to a djinn, then yes I do know what it is.

I'd also like to take a moment to ask anyone who posts in this topic to be mindful that there are those who do believe and to be respectful of that.

I think there are many parts of religions that are beautiful. The poetry of the Qur'an, for example, the teachings of Tao are also quite touching, as well as many of the words of Jesus in the Bible. It's true that religion has been the source of a lot of adversity, the excuse for terrible acts, but I don't blame religion. I blame people. History has proven to us time and time again that people will always find a reason to hate and to kill. If it isn't religion it's nationalism, imperialism, resources, race. Religion has brought a lot of good into the world. It has inspired beautiful art and literature, it's the motivation of many to help the less fortunate, it brings hope to people who are in dark situations. I choose to look at it as a good thing, regardless of whether any of it is true or not.

Sorry but... IKEEPZIT1HUNNITSH@WTY.

Now, back to reality, where religion has killed more people in our time of existence than anything else fathomable. Let's continue.

I am pretty sure disease and greed have killed far more then religion has. Let's just ignore every war the US has fought that had nothing to do with religion from the revolutionary war to the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Let's also ignore the 1918 flu and the Black death of the 14th century that killed millions of people. Let's also ignore all the people who got themselves killed for freedom and equality.

Do you really want to know what kills the most people even more then disease and greed? It's hate because it has no gender, sexual orientation, race, creed, or other preference as it will infect anyone it can infect. Once you are filled with hate, you start rationalizing violence, murder, theft, disrespect, etc. as being okay and acceptable.

Again, Soul, I don't blame religion for the poor choices that people made. As I said before, it's true that religion has been used as an excuse to do terrible things, but only because bad people manipulated it to justify their actions. If religion hadn't been there, they would have simply found a different justification.

Let's not get into history when we don't know the roots of of why those things happened, lol. You can list some major titles and dates from wikipedia and tell me about a flu but you can't tell me about disease in itself.

You know you're talking to a ex-die hard christian right? Someone who's traveled on missionaries, who's preached this religion 24/7, and knew it was a bunch of bullshit the entire time but kept lying to myself out of the "fear of god". All religion is created by the same person. Do some deep thorough research before starting topics about the beauty of religion and you won't have to deal with people like me lol.

By the way, I'm the nicest guy in the world, i have LOVE FOR EVERYONE. I just get enough sugar from my fruits to feel the need to sprinkle it on my coats.
