Winter is coming.

We had a lot to think about following the community's response to my previous announcement. Some comments weren't so helpful or were things I didn't agree with, but many of them were very strong and made some good points. From the backlash I realized three main things (in no particular order): #1: Resources are secondary to the life of the board. My focus has always been about evolving our resources as I always felt they were the life-blood of Outline, but it's clear that the community doesn't agree. You simply want a forum that you can come home to everyday with a leader passionate about guiding it. #2: I didn't start out knowing how to manage this board effectively - it was something I learned. I've made mistakes, I've learned, and I've grown. #3: I tried to close the board because I didn't want to fail anyone, but in doing so I feel that I failed everyone more than I ever could have imagined. I failed you all by not trying and not taking the risk. The only way we can truly fail is to not try. Contrary to what some believed, I was not closing the board out of a selfish desire. I was doing what I thought was best for the board, and I communicated that to my managers every step of the way. But because of the three things I mentioned above, my view on the matter has changed. I met with Stacha and Doug last week to discuss an option we ruled out previously: Stacha becoming an administrator. I want it to be clear that I never doubted Stacha's ability to lead the forum. In fact, she was the only one who I was truly willing to let take a shot at it. But we, as a management team, ultimately decided that a resource forum needed a resource administrator. That changed when it became clear that the community doesn't care as much about resources as they do keeping the forum open. So after our meeting, and after we proposed the idea to the staff, we all agreed that Stacha would be a fit leader for the forum. So with that, I'd like to extend a congratulations to Stacha - our fifth ever administrator! I'm going to stay on and help her get the hang of things as much as I possibly can for as long as she needs me, as well as continue development behind the scenes on the upcoming theme. She may make mistakes and she may not have eight hours a day to dedicate, but she will do her best and I hope that everyone will have patience with her. It will be up to Stacha and the staff team to decide the direction of the forum moving forward - it sounds to me like they'd like to keep resources as a prominent aspect. The closure announcement was a mess - many things were said on either side that can't be taken back. Stacha herself said she didn't think she was ready for this responsibility - but we spoke, and she's ready to take the risk. She knows that she has my support. It is my hope that we can move past those things swiftly. Many of the staff were defending the decision because they thought it wouldn't change and felt arguing was useless. I was the one who led them to believe that, so you can blame me. I respect that everyone spoke their feelings and didn't stay quiet - the board would be two days away from closing right now if you hadn't. I hope that you can respect that I was doing what I thought was best for the board. I'm confident in Stacha's ability to lead the board in the future. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask. If there are complaints, please direct them to me or Stacha via PM directly - this decision will not be overturned, so it's best we don't let any arguments break out again (though I suspect there won't be very much opposition to this decision). |

I'm so happy that Outline won't even be semi-closing and am very pleased to see Stacha take the administrator role. I'm looking forward to what's in store for Outline under her leadership. Congratulations Stacha! |

As long as Stacha believes in herself then things will work out for the best. I am sure storms may come and mistakes might be made but as long as she believes in herself then I do truly believe things will all work out for the best. Best of luck to her and her team. May they do well from here on out. No hard feelings from me on the things that led to this. Mistakes got made and lessons were learned from them. I say it all worked out for the best even if it was a bumpy ride to this point. It's never a waste to stand for what you think is right. The only wrong thing is to believe in one thing but not stand for it. If you believe in it then you should stand for it regardless of how hopeless it seems to do so. |

When you wear my flower, you make it beautiful.

First I'd just like to extend my thanks to the community. Because of my posts in the previous thread, you each have every reason to have little confidence in my ability to lead and it means more than I can say to know that I have your support and your trust. Outline has a long, impressive legacy and it's more than a little intimidating to be stepping into these very large shoes I have to fill, but I'm going to do my best to serve this community as it deserves to be served. I also want to thank the staff team. Without this team, Outline would still be headed for closure regardless of my own role in its future. We are lucky to have a dedicated, talented staff and I can't imagine a better team to help me manage the forums. I appreciate your support and your confidence. With the resource team that we have, I hope to keep resources a major player on Outline. This board began five years ago as a resource board and has continued to produce both amazing designs and amazing designers. I have no intention of letting that chapter close as a result of my own inexperience in resource design, and I have every confidence that our talented staff will continue to produce resources of the standard we've all come to expect from Outline. We all love Outline, that much has become abundantly clear in these last several days. I know for my part that Outline has been one of the most important and influential aspects of my life these last two years, and I know the same might be true for many of you. I am willing and ready to do my part to make sure that Outline continues to thrive and provide for each of us what we look to it for. I'll do my best not to let you down. Here's hoping that Outline will continue to inspire and delight for years to come. |

Congrats Stacha. Even if you're not someone into resources as much as the community side of things, I'm sure you'll have a suitable staff team who can fill the gaps on the resources front. What matters is being able to manage the staff team and the tasks required to keep the place running long and strong, and so if one of those tasks is to find and manage suitable staff to keep the resources front strong, I don't think it'll matter to many if you're not as experienced on the resources front as some may initially have hoped for from a new administrator. Good luck with it though, I can imagine even though it probably seems a huge and daunting task, there'll be plenty of people here who will support you, whether that be Cody, the staff team, or others.

I am glad to see that things have been resolved and that Outline will not be closing its doors. In the last year I have not been active, but I do check up on it and I still do consider Outline a home away from home. The atmosphere of this community is like no other and we have great staff, members, designers and coders who give their time and support. Besides, I am still trying to get to 5,000 post some day. Congratulations, Stacha. Edited by Travis, Friday, 20. September 2013, 21:03.

I'm glad to say I trust her leadership and I will continue serving as a staff member. I know some of you may not value some of the things I said in the closing topic, but it wasn't my intention to offend or make myself seem less professional than I was. And I apologize about that. |

Congratulations Stacha, I have every bit of confidence you can lead this forum and continue its legacy. I hope to that we pushed you into the decision though, but I'm glad you made this one. Whether you fail or succeed does not matter in my eyes, at least you took the chance. I will support Outline no matter what path it takes. |
